Got into a discussion about music with my intern today. Somehow Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise came up and she looked at me like I’d just said something in gibberish.
She’d never heard of it.

Even a Turkish girl, by Turkish I mean she was born in Ankara and lived in that county until 2013, I used to hang out with knew that song, she put it on when we were driving around.

was big at the time but I don’t feel like it’s been ingrained like a lot of older stuff.
my core group of friends is on average several years younger than me, but all still well into adulthood. I recently had to explain who Milli Vanilli was and their significance in music history. that caught me off guard.

Was she living under a rock? Or in an Amish Paradise ?

She was born a year after it came out, so I suppose that has something to do with it.

I guess I just figured it had earned a somewhat time-transcendent spot in pop-culture history.

Girl, you know that’s true.

Just tell her it’s Stevie Wonder’s Pastime Paradise with different lyrics. I’m sure she’s familiar with that one. /s

Thanks. Now I feel old too. I guess it doesn’t help that I’ve resorted to the Bruce Willis hairdo because I don’t like the fact that I have the typical rear of the scalp bald spot forming....

I worked with a kid who thought Nirvana was “Dave Grohl’s other band”. I really, really hated that kid.

I hate him, too.

It is good that he is hated. May the shame he feels be like burning hot coals heaped upon his head. May that discomfort point him toward the path of truth and provide an effective agent of change so that he can once again become a valuable member our or society and contribute to our culture rather than insult it.

He lacks the self awareness to delve any deeper in the shallow puddle that his consciousness occupies.

My wife bought me tickets to the “I Love the 90s” concert. Coolio was one of the acts. He looks OLD.

I am so proud of my daughter! She is fluent in classic rock like Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd. Her first album request was a copy of Dark Side of the Moon.
cue record scratch sound.
Her latest request was a copy of Hamilton (the musical).

The real question is, did you do it all for the nookie? (2001)

Oh Fred Durst, you douche.

Thats not you being old. Thats a ‘her’ problem. :P Or she probably doesn’t know of a lot of rap songs.

Could be worse, your boss is probably more familiar with this 1976 song

You know, the drummer for Nirvana does look like Dave Grohl. (kidding)

We were joking about some of the crappy old tech n the office. one co-worker goes “yeah they probably only have an old Polaroid in the photography catalog.” intern: “a what” co-worker it was a film that would instantly develop.” intern” ohh like the outcast song” facepalm yes like the song.
